How It All Started.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Before there was GSU, there was just me \u2014 a new player, a borrowed Steam account, and a game I barely understood but quickly grew to love.<\/span><\/p>\n

I was introduced to Counter-Strike 1.6<\/strong> by my stepbrother. I\u2019d heard of the game before, but that was the first time I really got to dive into it. He gave me access to one of his extra Steam accounts, and I spent hours getting lost in the chaos \u2014 jumping between crazy mods and random servers, soaking it all in. Back then, I remember clans like Ownage, COF XA , MOB, BSK <\/strong>being a big deal. But more than anything, what stood out to me was the sense of community<\/strong>. These places had an energy to them \u2014 players talking trash, admins running things, people just hanging out. It was alive.<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s what really hooked me \u2014 not just the gameplay, but the people. The culture. The idea that this was more than just a game.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first time I started thinking about building something myself was during my time around a clan called Mob<\/strong>. I wasn\u2019t a full member \u2014 more of a regular associate \u2014 but I spent a lot of time with them. Guys like Kingpin<\/strong> made the server feel like home. It had that tight-knit vibe that a lot of groups back then tried to capture. Even when that phase faded \u2014 like a lot of small groups did \u2014 it stayed with me.<\/span><\/p>\n

Later, when KSC (Killing Spree College)<\/strong> came around, I started taking on more responsibility. I helped with admin work, led some of the community building, and made friendships that have lasted over 15 years<\/strong>. That\u2019s where I learned what it actually meant to run a community \u2014 to care for it, shape it, and keep it together.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Story of GSU.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Alright, so here\u2019s the deal.<\/span><\/p>\n

GSU<\/em><\/strong> \u2014Ostensibly short for Gamers Stand United<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 officially kicked off on July 13, 2013<\/strong>. But let\u2019s be real, the story started way<\/em> before that.<\/span><\/p>\n

This wasn\u2019t some overnight thing. GSU<\/em><\/strong> was built from years of gaming, messing up, figuring stuff out, and slowly putting the pieces together. It was trial and error, rinse and repeat \u2014 until finally, it clicked.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before GSU<\/em><\/strong>, there was Arctic Oblivion (AO)<\/em><\/strong>, a clan I helped run with my longtime buddies AndKev<\/em><\/strong> and Sub-Zero<\/em><\/strong>. That came out of an earlier group called sR (Soul Repair)<\/em><\/strong>, started by Oogie<\/em><\/strong> and Drake<\/em><\/strong>. And that<\/em> came from a chill little community called Killing Spree College (KSC)<\/em><\/strong>, originally led by Softy<\/em><\/strong> and my stepbrother Oogie<\/em><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

We also had this short-lived but important pit stop called Phobos Tech Gaming (PTG)<\/em><\/strong>. It wasn\u2019t supposed to be a \u201creal\u201d clan \u2014 just a temporary project while I figured out where I wanted things to go. But every group along the way \u2014 KSC<\/em><\/strong>, sR<\/em><\/strong>, AO<\/em><\/strong>, PTG<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 taught me something new about leadership, building a community, and keeping a clan running without losing your mind.<\/span><\/p>\n

GSU<\/em><\/strong> was the final product of all that learning.<\/span><\/p>\n

What Made GSU<\/em> Special?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

We had one simple mission:<\/span>
\nMake a fun place where people could play, get better, and feel like they were part of something.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t about just hosting servers \u2014 it was about building a place that people actually wanted<\/em> to stick around in.<\/span><\/p>\n

The crew that helped launch it included me, AndKev<\/em><\/strong>, Sub-Zero<\/em><\/strong>, Goon-<\/em><\/strong>Mike<\/em><\/strong>, and Shadow<\/em><\/strong>. (Shadow<\/em><\/strong> was like a mentor to me \u2014 he taught me all the behind-the-scenes technical stuff about running servers.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Everyone brought something different: some had game sense, others had tech knowledge, others were just good at keeping people hyped and connected.<\/span><\/p>\n

We kept the rules simple:<\/span><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t piss off the admin. <\/strong>(\u201cSimple. Direct. Occasionally screamed in all chat.\u201d)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Yeah, sounds easy. But we were pretty chill. The goal was to keep things fun without turning the place into chaos. Play your game, have a good time, don\u2019t be a jerk \u2014 that was the vibe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eventually, it was mostly just me and Shadow<\/em><\/strong> still holding it down from the original crew. Nothing dramatic \u2014 no falling out or beef. The others just had their own lives and dreams to chase. That\u2019s how it goes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What We Hosted.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

GSU<\/em><\/strong> was built on Counter-Strike 1.6<\/strong>, and we hosted everything<\/em>:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Warcraft 3 FT mod<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • GunGame<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Deathmatch<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • 5v5 competitive servers<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  • And of course, the classic public servers<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    If people liked it, we hosted it. If something needed fixing, we tweaked it until it ran smooth.<\/span><\/p>\n

    But we didn\u2019t stop at CS. We also jumped into:<\/span><\/p>\n

      Basically, we gave people options. Whether you wanted to sweat it out in a scrim or just mess around in some chaotic mod \u2014 we had it.<\/span><\/p>\n

      At our peak? We were sitting around 100\u2013150 active members<\/strong>. A solid mix of new blood and veterans. Competitive but cool \u2014 which is rare.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Even when CS:GO<\/em><\/strong> came out, we didn\u2019t fade.<\/strong> (\u201cWe just yelled louder about how 1.6 had better recoil.\u201d)<\/em> If anything, we thrived<\/em> \u2014 especially during the pandemic. Every night like clockwork, we had competitive scrims. The pubs stayed poppin\u2019. We were alive while other 1.6 clans were fading out.<\/span><\/p>\n

      We even ran tournaments and clan matches constantly. It was nonstop.<\/span><\/p>\n

      The People Who Made It Work?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

      Way too many to name, but I gotta shout out a few:<\/span><\/p>\n

      Nevar<\/em><\/strong> deserves a special mention. He handled a ton of the behind-the-scenes hosting and server stuff. A lot of what we did wouldn\u2019t have worked without him.<\/span><\/p>\n

      The competitive crew?<\/span>
      \nMonsters.<\/span>
      \nRegular scrim grinders and frag machines:<\/span><\/p>\n

      Shtick, <\/span><\/strong>|2eMus, Link, <\/span>Niko<\/em><\/strong>, Ab<\/strong>, Sniper Joe<\/em><\/strong>, Link<\/em><\/strong>, SirSnipeys<\/em><\/strong>, Mophead<\/em><\/strong>, Sun9, Marsigsd<\/em><\/strong>, Bullet<\/em><\/strong>, Mont<\/em><\/strong>, Gaza Strip Club<\/em><\/strong>, WayTooGoodForMe<\/em><\/strong>, Ovation<\/em><\/strong>, Rezz<\/em><\/strong>, Z-Man<\/em><\/strong>, Paulie<\/em><\/strong>, Darv<\/em><\/strong>, Virus<\/em><\/strong>^reK <\/strong>\u2014 and yeah, Circuit<\/em><\/strong> too. (<\/span>Guy never met an AWP he didn\u2019t like.) At the end of the day, scrimmaging ended in a way that wasn\u2019t ideal. I won\u2019t bother with the drama \u2014 nobody needs that \u2014 but I\u2019m still grateful for all the hours we spent 5v5ing From Dusk Till Dawn, laughing, joking, and just being together. Those sessions, that energy\u2026 we didn\u2019t seem to get tired back then. That competitive Drive to get better at the game in the insatiable desire for competition.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

      The pub squad \u2014 the backbone of the servers: [m] Diddy, Diamond DruDallas,<\/strong> <\/span>Ishimura<\/span>, Pink Bandana, Youko<\/em><\/strong>, FluffyKnight<\/em><\/strong>, Commando<\/em><\/strong>, French Money<\/em><\/strong>, Ian from LA<\/em><\/strong>, David, Wayne<\/em><\/strong>, Pet Defective<\/em><\/strong>, Leon<\/em><\/strong>, and Playboy<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 always online, always vibing, always keeping things alive.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Also gotta give love to the rhythm keepers:<\/span><\/p>\n

      Swoop, Spoon<\/em><\/strong>, Boker<\/em><\/strong>, Skam<\/em><\/strong>, }{itman[dj] pw solar<\/strong><\/em>, and NeOiCeSHoT<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 regulars, mods, and friends who kept the culture strong and the wheels turning.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

      Sweet zombie Christ the pub is still going strong, even to this day. I appreciate everyone who\u2019s ever joined \u2014 for the most part, (you know who you are. You know what you did. Well perhaps it was more than one? It’s no one? )\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      So many wild personalities, so many interesting people\u2026 always a fun, chaotic time. Anyone who\u2019s ever played in the pub knows how it goes, especially since we barely had any actual rules \u2014 except the gold standard: don\u2019t piss off the admin.<\/span><\/p>\n

      But yeah, so many bonds and friendships came out of that community. It was really something special back then, and honestly, it still is.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Creative side? We were blessed.<\/span><\/p>\n

      • Adam Sinclair<\/em><\/strong>, Mystyc Cheez<\/em><\/strong>, Harry<\/em><\/strong>, \u03a7\u03ac\u03c1\u03b7\u03c2<\/em><\/strong>, and Foofinno<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 custom mappers who made our servers feel unique.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • NeoHL<\/em><\/strong> and Takatalvi<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 incredible player model designers. Gave our clan its visual identity.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Iil4Death<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 longtime friend who made a bunch of our signature sprays.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • And Princess<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 she helped with early beta assets and was a huge part of the creative team before we lost her. She\u2019s still missed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        What the Spirit of GSU Really Means?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

        There\u2019s one quote that\u2019s always stuck with me \u2014 and if you ask me, it sums up the GSU mindset better than anything else. It\u2019s from Paul Heyman, back when he was running ECW. Right before their first-ever pay-per-view, he gave this raw, passionate speech to the locker room. It wasn\u2019t about money, or fame, or looking polished. It was about heart. About doing something your own way, even when the world\u2019s laughing at you.<\/span><\/p>\n

        \n

        \u201c17 million homes that have access to this show tonight will pay $20\u2026hopefully (knocks on wood)\u2026for the privilege to see you guys do what you have done for 3 and a half years.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

        Thank Terry Funk for all he\u2019s done for this company. For help putting us on the map. For being unselfish in selfish times. For taking the young guys and showing them a better way.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

        Tonight we have a chance to say: \u2018Yeah, you\u2019re right! We\u2019re too extreme! We\u2019re wild, we\u2019re too out of control! We\u2019re too full of our own s***!\u2019 But we have a chance to say: \u2018Hey, F*** YOU, YOU\u2019RE WRONG! F*** YOU, WE\u2019RE RIGHT!\u2019<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

        That speech isn\u2019t just wrestling hype \u2014 it\u2019s a blueprint for what I\u2019ve always believed GSU should be. We weren\u2019t trying to be the biggest, flashiest, or most elite. We just wanted to build something real. Something that meant something to the people who were part of it. And we did \u2014 even when people doubted us, or tried to tear it down, we didn\u2019t stop.<\/span><\/p>\n

        We\u2019re not the biggest clan in the world. We don\u2019t run things like it\u2019s life or death. But we\u2019re still here. We show up. We have each other\u2019s backs. And more than a decade later, we\u2019re still standing. That\u2019s the spirit of GSU.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Where Things Stand Now?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

        Like any long-running group, GSU<\/em><\/strong> has had its ups and downs. Games change. Life happens. People drift, and that\u2019s okay.<\/span><\/p>\n

        But the core<\/em>? Still here.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Some of us still play. Some keep side projects going. Others just drop in every once in a while to say hey.<\/span><\/p>\n

        The one thing that always kept us together?<\/span>
        \nWe loved CS 1.6.<\/strong><\/span>
        \nAnd we loved the people who came with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

        GSU<\/em><\/strong> wasn\u2019t about having the highest KDR \u2014<\/span>
        \n(\u201cWhich is exactly what someone with a bad KDR would say,\u201d)<\/em><\/span>
        \n\u2014 or running perfect scrims \u2014<\/span>
        \n(\u201cDidn\u2019t stop me from yelling at the team, though.\u201d)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

        It was about the friendships<\/em>, the late-night chaos<\/em>, the weird jokes<\/em>, the sick plays<\/em>, and the memories that stuck<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

        So if you were ever a part of this clan \u2014<\/span>
